Operación Paz en Galilea: ¿cómo crear a su peor enemigo?

El desencadenamiento de la operación Paz en Galilea (1982) fue posible debido a la gran superioridad militar israelí y a la esperada tolerancia estadounidense, por lo que el gobierno Begin creyó que disponía de una oportunidad histórica para evitar el reparto territorial del antiguo Mandato de Palestina. De ahí que el grueso de la ofensiva se centrara en la destrucción de la OLP, sin tener en cuenta que la misma rompería el equilibrio de poder existente en el Líbano, permitiendo que otros actores, especialmente las milicias chiítas, pasaran a jugar un papel mucho más destacado. Éstas se convirtieron en unos enemigos eficaces que recibían la ayuda militar de Siria e Irán, quienes deseaban utilizar la inestabilidad en la frontera israelo-libanesa para defender sus intereses regionales.
