Vol. 14 No. 29 (2025): Xauen 2024: A Hidden Annual or a Success of the Dictator?

Following the centenary of the withdrawal from Xauen, this dossier explores the main debates surrounding the effectiveness and significance of the episode within the framework of the Rif War. The various articles that comprise it analyze the importance of the operation from different perspectives (political, military, social, and cultural) in order to complicate the analysis of a maneuver defined as crucial—not only on the military level, but also because of its significance within the very context of the consolidation of Primo de Rivera’s dictatorship. Finally, the monograph seeks to highlight the influence of Africanism on subsequent episodes, such as the Civil War, understanding that these have their roots in the historical experience and in the mechanisms generated in the African context.
